Developing a grantmaking strategy requires understanding the issue and the local context. It also requires establishing clear and measurable objectives for what change you would like to see as a result of supporting a nonprofit or an initiative. Research, including conversations with nonprofits, provides critical data and insights for strategic decisions. Taylor has designed data-driven foundation strategies and supported individual donors in creating philanthropic plans that align with their values and goals.

Grantmaking and Evaluation
Identifying and supporting high-performing grantee partners is central to effective philanthropy. Peter can assist donors or foundations by establishing grant strategies and guidelines, conducting nonprofit outreach, administering application and selection processes, and developing evaluation methods. This helps donors understand grantee progress and the factors affecting outcomes at individual, organizational, and community levels.
Peter’s specific grantmaking and evaluation support includes:
o Designing proposal criteria and application processes
o Conducting due diligence on proposals (evaluating and scoring applications, seeking more information from applicants, and analyzing financial statements and budgets)
o Coordinating site visits to prospective or existing grantees
o Using tools beyond grantmaking, such as impact investing or funding advocacy
o Facilitating decision-making meetings
o Evaluating grant programs
